McMilian, Swenson In Running For Kansas City’s Best Singer/Songwriter
August 5, 2010 – KC Cafe Radio Performing Artists Sara Swenson and Elaine McMilian are among the nominees for Kansas City's best Singer/Songwriter, part of the annual Pitch Music Awards. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, Sunday, August 15 at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Award balloting continues until Thursday, August 12, at The Pitch website here.
Both Swenson and McMilian have been playing on KC Cafe Radio since the station started broadcasting late May, 2008. Swenson was the winner in the Singer/Songwriter category last year.
Both artists will appear in a showcase event at the Bulldog Bar and Grill on Wednesday, August 11. For more information, click here.
In an awards preview article, The Pitch describes Swenson as "Warm folk with a touch of the blues." Over the summer, she traveled to Nashville to record her newest album, "All Things Big And Small," which is due for release late this summer or early fall.

The Pitch says Elaine McMilian's music is "heartfelt and sensitive." She has been playing since she was 5 years old, and began writing in 2002, releasing her first album, "Insomnia," that year.
McMilian continues to perform solo, and with her new band, Brannock Device, and she is recording a new solo album.
On whether she prefers performing solo or with a band, McMilian told The Pitch, ""There is definitely an intimacy that comes from standing onstage alone and singing something written from the heart. Singing solo puts more emphasis on lyrics and personal style. But collaborating is its own art form, organic and magical."
