FAI Conference 2014: Wednesday Night Showcase

The Buttermilk BoysFebruary 19, 2014 – Opening night at the 26th Annual Folk Alliance International Conference introduced Kansas City to conference attendees with a “KC Extravaganza,” a sampling of the Kansas City music scene.  KC Cafe Radio was honored to host one of the 9 venues of music.  Among the performers onstage that night were KC Cafe Radio Performing Artists Kasey Rausch, Johnathan Fleig, Jefferson Fox, Mick Byrd, Conner Leimer, Dylan Russell, Brendan MacNaughton, Sky Smeed, Andrew Foshee, and The Buttermilk Boys.

Folk Alliance Showcase Tickets Now Available

KC Cafe Radio Featured Presenter At Opening Night Extravaganza

Folk Alliance 2014 ConferenceJanuary 26, 2014 – KC Cafe Radio will host one of the 9 music venues opening the 26th Annual Folk Alliance International Conference and Music Camp, on Wednesday, February 19.  The conference runs through February 24th, at the Westin Crown Center hotel in Kansas City, Missouri.  Performances begin at 8 PM (Central Time) in the Roanoke room, featuring the music of Kasey Rausch (8:00), Jonathan Fleig (8:20), Jefferson Fox (8:40), Mick Byrd (9:00), Conner Leimer (9:20), Dylan Russel (9:40), Brendan MacNaughton (10:00), Sky Smeed (10:20), Andrew Foshee (10:40), The Buttermilk Boys (11:00), Brody Buster Trio (11:20), and Molly Gene (11:40).

In addition to the KC Extravaganza Showcase on Wednesday night, public showcase events will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights during the conference.  A total of 200 juried performances will be available across 4 evenings.

The Showcase is a charity fundraiser and all ticket purchases are 100% donations to the Folk Alliance Scholarship Fund, Midwest Music Foundation, and the Casey Bill Weldon Headstone Fund.  A limited number of tickets are available, ranging from $25 for a single night, to $85 for all four nights of performances.  Tickets may be purchased from Eventbrite here.

The Folk Alliance Music Showcase is part of the annual International Folk Alliance Conference and Winter Music Camp taking place that week at the Westin and Sheraton Hotels in downtown Kansas City.  This is the first year that Kansas City is hosting the conference and camp, since Folk Alliance International moved its headquarters last summer from Memphis, Tennessee. to Kansas City, Missouri.

2014 Folk Alliance International Conference: Kansas City

Folk Alliance 2014 ConferenceJanuary 6, 2014 – For the first time, the 26th annual Folk Alliance International Conference and Winter Music Camp will be held at Kansas City’s Crown Center hotels February 19th through the 23rd.  The event coincides with the relocation of the Folk Alliance International headquarters to Kansas City from Memphis, TN.

The largest folk-related gathering of it’s kind, the 2014 conference will bring together over 2,000 registered attendees, including over 100 industry exhibitors, and of course, lots of music.  Over 200 juried music performances, more than 300 private showcase events, and over 50 workshops, panel discussions, and peer group meetings discussing critical issues relating to presenting, promoting, and preserving folk and traditional music and dance.  Folk icon Graham Nash is the conference keynote speaker on February 20, and former Vice President Al Gore will host his award winning presentation on global climate change on February 22.

2014 Folk Alliance Winter CampIn conjunction with the industry conference in Kansas City’s Westin Crown Center Hotel, the new Winter Music Camp will take place in the adjoining Sheraton Hotel. It will offer group and individual instruction, performances and jam sessions for all levels of players in all styles of roots music, featuring music legends such as Byron Berline, Mike Compton, Ken Perlman and others, including a keynote by Graham Nash.

The conference opens on Wednesday, February 19th, highlighted by a showcase of live performances hosted by Kansas City area media, including KC Cafe Radio.  We will also host afternoon and late night Private Showcase events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  All KC Cafe Radio-related events will be broadcast live, and available on-demand from our website.  More information on our coverage will be announced here soon.

Recently, KC Cafe Radio’s John Dutton visited with Folk Alliance International Executive Director Louis Meyers, at their new headquarters and store in downtown Kansas City.  They talked about the move from Memphis to Kansas City, the conference, and the future of Folk Alliance International in its new home.
