Norman Rockwell, Meet Kerry Patrick Clark!

By: Kathy Forste, Music Director

KC Cafe Radio Performing Artist and singer/songwriter Kerry Patrick Clark is known to many as the musical version of Norman Rockwell.  His songs are musical paintings of inspiration and convey the moments of when we exhibit our better selves.

Kerry Patrick Clark’s musical journey began in Fifth grade when his mother bought his father a guitar as an anniversary gift.  With that guitar, his dad taught him the only 5 chords he knew.  Kerry went on to learn the music of singer/songwriters that moved him: John Denver, Harry Chapin, and James Taylor.  He learned and sang those songs until the songs in his heart sang louder than those on records or the radio.

Kerry released his first project, Life And Times, a record!- in 1985.  Of the 1,000 copies that were pressed and sold that year, one made it’s way to the offices of  The New Christy Minstrels.    Clark   toured   with   the   Christy’s  in  1985,  celebrating the group’s 25th anniversary.  He later recorded the projects; A Simple Man, 1994; Build A Bridge, 1996; Choose Love, 2000; 911…Songs To Heal A Nation, 2001.  "Ground Zero," a  track from the 911… CD, was used by CNN in the 6th month anniversary special to honor those who served and those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

I recently had the pleasure of spending some time with Kerry talking about making music from the heart versus the mind.  He tells about his performing history with the New Christy Minstrels.  How he built his recording studio, his musical inspirations both old and new, and our mutual, special connection with Russia.

Kerry Patrick Clark's newest album is called On the Road to Human Being.  He share's some of the stories behind the songs on this positive and inspiring album that has quickly become one of KC Cafe Radio's most requested.
