Tracy Newman: A writer through and through

By: Maria Smith

To say that Tracy Newman has had a boring career would be lie.  It would also be a lie to say that you aren’t jealous of it.  The musician/comedy writer has made a name for herself by writing on shows like Ellen, Cheers, and The Nanny.  While her writing career took the front seat Newman never stopped making music, some of which can be found on those very shows that she wrote on.

Newman found a passion for music at 14 when she started to play guitar.  Learning to play with songs from The Kingston Trio and then going on to being able to teach the instrument to people in her town.  While she continued her songwriting career during the time she was writing for TV she decided in 2003 that music is what she wanted to do.  Soon afterwards, she decided to go to a songwriting weekend in Nashville to learn how to properly write a story song, and the rest is history.

Recently, KC Cafe Radio Music Director Kathy Forste talked with Newman via Skype.  They chat about inspiration found at a Waffle House, her newest album That’s What Love Can do to Your Heart, and more.
