FAI 2018: The Interviews

Twenty-Eighteen marks the 30th consecutive year that Folk Alliance International has been celebrating folk music, its musicians and those involved in furthering the cause of Folk Music around the world.  That makes this year’s conference theme, 30 Years of Community and Song all the more appropriate.

This year also marks KC Cafe Radio’s 10th year of Bringing You The World’s Finest Original Music, and 5 years of bringing conference coverage to our airwaves.  This year, we continue the tradition of on-air visits with with old friends, as well as new relationships we have made.

FAI 2015: Conversations At Folk Alliance

AJ Genero, Kathy Forste and Hilary Scott posing for the camera following their Showcase performanceFor all of us at KC Cafe Radio, the 27th Annual Folk Alliance International conference proved to be our most rewarding experience yet.  It was an honor to host such an outstanding group of fine musicians from across the United States and around the world on our Showcase stage and on our air.

We wish to thank all of those musicians who shared their musical talent, making our nearly 20 hours of live coverage possible and entertaining.  Thanks also to others who were not scheduled to perform on our stage yet dropped by just to say “hello” and lend their support.

Thanks to Sally Smith, proprietor of Whistlestop Antiques in Belton, Missouri, and a KC Cafe Radio board member, who assisted behind the scenes with our production efforts.

The view outside from the KC Cafe Radio showcase room: Union Station and downtown Kansas CityThanks to Folk Alliance International, who placed us inside such a beautiful performance venue at the Westin Crown Center Hotel. It was a treat to look out our windows and gaze over Union Station, the downtown Kansas City skyline, and the Crossroads Arts District, while we enjoyed the live music.

And most importantly, thank you, dear listener, for supporting this excellent demonstration of Bringing You The World’s Finest Original Music with your listenership of our live coverage.  If you missed any of it, you will find the archived recordings elsewhere on this site, just search for “FAI2015.”

FARM 2014: Conversations At FARM

KC Cafe Radio's Booth at the 2014 Folk Alliance Region Midwest conferenceOur second year of coverage from the 2014 Folk Alliance Region Midwest Conference  in Saint Louis Missouri was highlighted by the conversations we had with conference attendees.  From musicians, music industry professionals, radio station DJs and venue operators, we were impressed with the breadth of conversation and learning we acquired at this year’s conference.

We hope you also enjoyed our live coverage.  Over the three days at the conference, over 22 hours of live coverage, including 6 hours of live performances from our Private Showcase stage, was provided for your listening pleasure. Here, we present all the conversations that were recorded from our daytime coverage at the conference.  Elsewhere you will find recordings from our live late-night showcase broadcasts.  If you missed any our live coverage, you can enjoy it all right here.

Next Year the conference relocates to Iowa City, Iowa.  A community rich in art and culture, Iowa City will offer even greater opportunities for networking, performance and fun.  Stay tuned to the FARM website for more details!
